As a college freshman in 1973, I found myself at a large university surrounded by other young students trying to find themselves. It was a difficult time for our country and the generation who embraced the protest movement that had begun in the 60’s. I was feeling very much alone and searching for answers amidst the turmoil. God extended His gracious hand to me in the form of a Gideon New Testament.
While on my way to the cafeteria one day, I approached the ramp that led to the entrance. Strewn along the path and handrails were small green books. As I picked one up to see what others had discarded, I was amazed to find they were New Testaments. I sensed at that moment one was placed there for me by the providence of the Lord.
When I left that school with one suitcase to study abroad, I also carried one book—my small New Testament. The truth of God’s Word was a powerful draw, and I yearned to learn more. Soon I met Christian friends who led me to Christ.
Today, I still carry that New Testament with me when I travel as a reminder that God is always with me and that His Word does not return to Him void. May God bless you in your endeavour to further the Great Commission. The Gideons International
