IS THE GIDEONS INTERNATIONAL A DENOMINATION OR A CHURCH?
It is neither. The Gideons International is an association that complements the work of the Evangelical or Protestant churches. Our members come from many denominations, live all over the world and share a desire to see the lost come to Christ.
DO PEOPLE EVER READ THE BIBLES IN THEIR HOTEL ROOMS?
Yes! Each Bible placed in a hotel room has the potential of reaching up to 2 300 people in its estimated six-year life span. Research from the hotel industry tells us that approximately 25% of travellers read the Bibles in their hotel rooms. DOES MOST PEOPLE IN SOUTH AFRICA NOT ALREADY HAVE A BIBLE?
Research by the South African Bible Society has shown that about 20 million people do not own their own Bible.
WHAT IS THE INFLUENCE OF THE GIDEONS?
· The Gideons spread the Word of God in 201 countries.
· Since the Gideons was established in South Africa in 1950, more than 44 million Bibles have been placed.
· Worldwide, more than 2 479 000 000 Bibles have been placed since 1908.
CAN I GET BIBLES OR NEW TESTAMENTS FOR MY CHURCH FOR MY PERSONAL USE?
Our mission is to reach the lost. We do not provide Bibles and New Testaments to individuals, our church partners or other organizations for their distribution. Our unique method is to have our members distribute Bibles in places like schools, hotels, doctor rooms etc.
WHAT DO GIDEONS BELIEVE?
All Gideons uphold the following core beliefs:
The Bible is the inspired, infallible, inerrant Word of God.
The Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God.
All Gideons must also:
Have received Jesus as their personal Saviour.
Endeavour to follow Him in their daily lives.
Be members in good standing in their Protestant/Evangelical churches.
WHY DO THE GIDEONS STILL DISTRUTE HARD COPY OF THE BIBLE?
Many people who have access to digital platforms, still prefer to have a hard copy of the Bible. In South Africa many people can afford to use the internet on a daily basis.
WHAT IS THE MONEY FOR WHICH I DONATE BE USED FOR?
The money goes to the printing, shipping and distribution of Bibles. There are also additional costs which include: royalties, storage costs, salaries for the staff of the National Service Centre, contract labour, and equipment.
