Bibles opened barricades

National Bible Blitz week 11-14 August 2024

The first school we visited had over 1100 pupils, and we were able to place over 1100 Bibles there. On the third day, we travelled deeper into the rural area to reach another school. To get there, we had to pass through the area where we had already distributed the Bibles. As we drove by, some of the learners recognised us – they waved, shouted, and greeted us with great enthusiasm.

However, as we continued on our journey, we encountered a barricade. There was a protest action, with tree stumps burning and rocks scattered across the road. We couldn’t proceed. Suddenly, we realised we were surrounded – people stood on both sides of the narrow, potholed sand road, leaving no room to turn around. We had no choice but to stop and wait.

Then, something unexpected happened. The leader of the protest pointed at us and shouted, “Malun IBhayibheli ! Malun IBhayibheli!” At that moment, we understood. The learners who had received Bibles from us had taken them home, sharing them with their families and communities. The leader had recognised us – the only white people in the area driving a white truck – as the ones who gave out the Bibles. He continued to say, “Malun IBhayibheli,” and instructed the crowd to open the barricade and let us through. They complied, clearing the road for us.

We gave the protest leader five Bibles and asked him to share them with the others. The crowd was overjoyed, shouting “Hallelujah!” as we passed through safely. Thanks to God’s provision, we were able to complete our Scripture distribution at the second school without any further issues.

We then realised God had gone before us, clearing the way. By sharing His Word with the learners, His light had spread into their homes and community, bringing such joy and hope that even the protest action could not hinder us. In fact, it encouraged us to continue on to other schools. These Bibles had not only opened doors – they had opened hearts.

Wherever we take the Word of God, His light shines into the darkest places. It’s truly a privilege and a joy to do this work. God is working in the hearts of people, and we’re witnessing lives being changed by His grace.

To Him all the Glory!
